Poor mental health in youths is more than feeling blue. It can impact many areas of a youths life . Youths with poor mental health struggle with relationships, decision making and their health.
Mental health in youths often go hand in hand with other health and behavioral risks like increased risk of drug use, violence and higher risk sexual behaviors that can lead to STI’s However, increased stress, fear, anxiety, parental depression, family conflict ,loss of supportive environment can influence mental health.
Mental health is important for a youth to develop in a healthy way and build strong relationships, adapt to change and deal with life challenges.
Studies shows that mental health challenges faced by Cameroonian youths are anxiety 24.3% , stress or/and trauma related 17.0% and mood disorders 8.0%.
Most females face mental health challenges compared to the male population and most host population face mental health challenges compared to IDPs (internally displaced persons).
Therefore, Mental health is important to every Cameroonian youth. Where little or no attention is drawn to mental health and people find it difficult to communicate about it.
